So, what is Lammie Drive ? Simply, it is a 2 week ride on a 1964 Lambretta TV 175 Series 2 from Sydney to Perth to raise money for Breast and Prostate Cancer Research at St Vincents Hospital, in Sydney, who have approved me as a fund raiser, under NSW fun raising rules and regulations.

It came about as some friends and I are riding to the National Classic Scooter Rally, near Adelaide , in October 2009. As this is 40% of the way to Perth , I thought, “Why not go all the way across and raise money whilst I’m at it”. Of course, amongst my friends, they usually just think I had a mental aberration. I’m still attending the Rally, and this will be a weekend off between the two sections. Initially the ride was to be called “Long way on a Lammie”, but that was too much to type in for a domain name, so I asked for suggestions and got “ Lammie Drive ” from Linz of Scooter Community. For those outside Australia , it is common to raise money by having a Lammington Drive , which was originally to sell Lammington Cakes for a charitable purpose.

Specifically why I’m raising money for St Vincents and Mater Health is that in November 2007 I was a patient at St Vincents after an oncoming car pulled a u-turn right in front of me. I came out of that with a damaged shoulder and a fractured skull, and  I was wearing a helmet. As for Cancer research? I’ve lost a few friends recently due to cancer. Specifically Kirsty Rae, and Peter Wherret, whom I knew as Pip. This site is dedicated to both of my friends, and anyone else who is suffering from cancer. Whilst the chances of cure are much better than they used to be, people still die, and I wish to do my bit to reduce that death rate even further.

I00% of the money you donate will be given to cancer research, and split 50/50 between Breast and Prostate Cancer Research. Any expenses will be covered by myself and my sponsors.
